Sarafan (English spelling) сарафан/sarafan Russian

One of the Russian national costumes. It is a sleeveless outer garment worn by women over a blouse (lubakh). It basically consists of a sleeveless body-fitting torso and a full, floor-length skirt, joined at a high seam. The position and shape of the neckline vary, and there are no set rules. It is worn over a soft white blouse with plenty of gathers. It is made from luxurious fabrics such as silk brocade and satin, as well as wool, cashmere, and cotton.

ロシアの民族衣装の一つ。婦人たちがブラウス（ルバハ）の上から着る袖(そで)のない表着。基本的には、体にフィットする袖なしの胴部と、たっぷりとした床丈のスカートが、胸高な切り替えで結合されたもの。ネックラインの位置や形はさまざまで、決まりはない。ギャザーがたっぷりと入ったソフトな白いブラウスの上に着用する。シルクのブロケードやサテンなどの豪華な織物のほか、ウール、カシミヤ、木綿などを用いてつくられる。
