Shiraoi town in Shiraoi district, Hokkaido, located roughly halfway between Muroran and Tomakomai. Facing the Pacific Ocean, it is served by the Muroran Main Line and the Do-o Expressway. The mountainous areas to the north and west are part of Shikotsu-Toya National Park, and Lake Kuttara is located in the southwest. The Ainu Kotan near Shiraoi Station is famous. 北海道，室蘭市と苫小牧(とまこまい)市のほぼ中間にある白老郡の町。太平洋に面し，室蘭本線，道央自動車道が通じる。北と西の山地は支笏洞爺(しこつとうや)国立公園地域で，南西部に倶多楽(くったら)湖がある。白老駅付近のアイヌコタンは有名。製紙工場，水産加工場がある。425.64km2。１万9376人（2010）。
