Shiraoi town in Shiraoi district, Hokkaido, located roughly halfway between Muroran and Tomakomai. Facing the Pacific Ocean, it is served by the Muroran Main Line and the Do-o Expressway. The mountainous areas to the north and west are part of Shikotsu-Toya National Park, and Lake Kuttara is located in the southwest. The Ainu Kotan near Shiraoi Station is famous.
