Choro
A popular urban music that was perfected in Brazil in the second half of the 19th century. It is a type of music that originated in white society. As European music such as polka was performed by small instrumental ensembles consisting of flutes and guitars, it developed into a unique instrumental music with a unique improvisational quality. Later, choro, which incorporated singing, appeared, and variations such as samba-choro, which was linked to samba, were born. It is closely related to samba, which has a strong black influence, but it maintains its own uniqueness.

ブラジルで19世紀後半に完成された都市大衆音楽。白人系社会で生まれた音楽。ポルカなどのヨーロッパ渡来の音楽をフルートやギターなどからなる小規模の器楽合奏で演奏しているうちに,独自の即興性をもつ器楽に発展。のちには歌をまじえたショーロも現れ,サンバと結びついたサンバ・ショーロなどの変形も生まれた。黒人色の強いサンバと密接に関連しながらも独自性を保っている。
