Kinasa [Village] - Kinasa

Japanese: 鬼無里[村] - きなさ
Kinasa [Village] - Kinasa
A village in Kamiminochi County in northern Nagano Prefecture. Population 2,523 (1995). It borders Niigata Prefecture to the north and is surrounded by mountains over 1,000 meters above sea level. It is a mountain village known for the legend of the demon woman Momiji. The Susobana River, a tributary of the Sai River, flows south through the center, and settlements are scattered in the Obira plain along the river. National Route 406 crosses the southern part of the village. In the past, it was written as Kinasa, but since the end of the Sengoku period, the characters Kinasa have been used. Agriculture, mainly rice, tobacco, dairy farming, and livestock farming, is the main industry, but much of the cultivated land is located on steep mountain slopes and productivity is low.
