Theories on the origins of various diseases

Japanese:
Theories on the origins of various diseases

A Chinese medical book. Compiled in 610 by Suo Yuanfang of the Sui dynasty at imperial command, it is the only complete book on the etiology, pathology, and morbidity of traditional Chinese medicine. It consists of 50 volumes and 1,726 entries. Of these, 306 entries include the Do-in method as a treatment technique. After this work, Chinese and Japanese medical encyclopedias such as Senkinho, Gedaihiyoho, and Ishinho followed this book as a model for classifying diseases. Therefore, it has had a great influence on later generations. Even today, it is considered a basic text in traditional Chinese medicine, and is particularly useful when interpreting disease names and terminology recorded in the Chinese Classics of Medicine.

The oldest surviving copy published from the Southern Song Dynasty (formerly owned by the Kanazawa Bunko) is kept by the Archives and Mausolea Department of the Imperial Household Agency.
