A Danish soldier and first president of the Danish Heath Society. Born into a French family that immigrated to Denmark in 1782, he was commissioned as a lieutenant in the military road construction corps in Viborg, North Jutland, in 1853, promoted to captain in 1856, and lieutenant colonel in 1880. He became well acquainted with the soil of Jutland while working in Viborg, and in 1866 he founded the Heath Society in Aarhus with some friends, devoting his efforts to cultivating the heathlands. He is well known in Japan, but there are many questions about the nature of his work. [Murai Masato]

デンマークの軍人，デンマーク･ヒース協会初代会長。デンマークに1782年に移住したフランス系の家系に生まれ，1853年北ユトランド，ビボーの軍道敷設隊の工兵中尉に任官，56年大尉に，80年中佐となる。ビボー在勤中にユトランドの土壌を熟知し，66年オーフスで友人らとともにヒース協会を設立し，ヒース地帯の開墾に力を注いだ。日本での知名度は高いが，仕事の内容については疑問の点も多い。【村井誠人】
