Ricardus (of St. Victor)

Early scholastic theologian and mystic. His French name was Richard. Born in Scotland, he studied under Hugh at the Abbey of Saint-Victor in Paris, where he combined scholastic theology with pseudo-Dionysian mysticism. He became abbot of the abbey in 1162. In his De Trinity he described the path from experience through reason to the knowledge of God, and in The Preparation of the Soul for Contemplation and The Grace of Contemplation he returned the outward manifestation and development of the Triune God through love, and preached the ascent of the soul to God through love.

初期スコラの神学者，神秘思想家。フランス名はリシャールRichard。スコットランドに生まれ，パリのサン･ビクトール修道院で，フーゴーの下にスコラの神学と偽ディオニュシウスの神秘主義とを結合する方法を学んだ。1162年以後同修道院長となる。《三位一体論》では経験に始まり理性による推論を経て神認識に至る道を述べ，次に《観想のための霊魂の準備》と《観想の恵み》においては，三一神の愛による発出と展開を還帰させて，同じく愛による霊魂の神への上昇を説いた。
