Japanese: マルカメムシ(丸亀虫) - マルカメムシ

A general term for insects in the Hemiptera family Plataspidae, or one of these species. Few species exceed 10 mm in body length, and they are usually less than 6 mm. Their bodies are round and elevated, reminiscent of beetles. Similar to the golden stink bug of the Hemiptera family, the minor scutellum covers the entire abdomen and is circular or oblong. The forewings are folded under the minor scutellum. Some species have spatula-shaped protruding lateral lobes on the head. There are 500 species in the world, and more than 12 in Japan. They are herbivorous, and many species are considered pests of legumes.

半翅目マルカメムシ科Plataspidaeの昆虫の総称，またはそのうちの1種を指す。体長10mmを超える種は少なく，ふつう6mm以下である。体は円く中高で甲虫類を思わせる。カメムシ科のキンカメムシなどに似て小楯板（しようじゆんばん）は腹部全面をおおい円形または長卵形。前翅は小楯板の下にたたみこまれる。ときに頭部の側葉がへら状に突出する種もある。世界に500種，日本に12種以上いる。植食性で，マメ科植物の害虫とされる種が多い。
