A state in the southern United States. Abbreviated as Ga. or GA. Stretching from the southern Appalachian Mountains to the coastal plain of the Atlantic coast, it is mostly plains and hills. From the late 19th century to the early 20th century, it developed as the center of the southern cotton industry. Even today, mansions from the plantation era remain. Peanuts, pecans, tobacco, soybeans, and corn are also cultivated. Forestry is also thriving. It is one of the world's leading producers of turpentine. It is also known for its kaolin and acid clay.
