A mass outbreak of poisoning caused by bacteria, chemicals, or natural toxins. Food poisoning is the most common cause, with about half of cases being bacterial. Chemical substances (e.g. carbon monoxide, organophosphate compounds) often cause poisoning through the respiratory tract or skin (industrial poisoning). The mass outbreak of infectious diseases such as dysentery and typhoid is called a mass infection. Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
