Shokugensho

Japanese: 職原鈔 - しょくげんしょう

This book, written by Kitabatake Chikafusa in two volumes, records the history, transitions, and duties of Japan's successive government systems, with further annotations. After the collapse of the Kenmu government, while the Ashikaga forces were in the ascendancy, Chikafusa fought in various parts of Hitachi to establish the foundations of the Southern Court in the eastern provinces. He wrote this book in 1340 (Kokoku 1, Ryakuo 3) at Oda Castle in Hitachi, during a turning point with the death of Emperor Go-Daigo and the accession to the throne of Emperor Go-Murakami. This was written the year after the publication of the Jinno Shotoki, and the two books are closely related. Therefore, although it takes the form of a commentary on the government system, the intention of the book as a writer is not limited to that.

北畠親房が日本歴代の官制の沿革，変遷，職務内容などを記し，さらに注釈を加えた書。上下2巻。建武政権崩壊ののち，足利軍優位のなか，東国に南朝の基盤を築くため常陸各地を転戦していた親房が，後醍醐天皇の死，後村上天皇の即位という局面の転換期に，常陸小田城で1340年(興国1∥暦応3)執筆した。これは《神皇正統記》成立の翌年のことであり，両書の関係は密接である。したがって官制の注釈書という形をとりつつ，この書の著作意図はそれにとどまらない。
