This is the diary of Fujiwara no Sanesuke (957-1046), a nobleman in the mid-Heian period. It was named after his nickname, Ononomiya, Minister of the Right. It is also read as "Ouki" and is also called "Yafuki" or "Zoku Suishinki." It covers a long period of about 60 years, from 978 (Tengen 1) to 1036 (Chogen 9), and many volumes are missing. It is not only a representative diary of an aristocrat, but also a valuable basic historical source of the mid-Heian period, as it contains long entries for each day, specific and easy-to-understand sentences, and Sanesuke's interpretations and impressions are added. The contents overlap with the period from when Fujiwara no Michinaga gained power to his death, so there are many articles about Michinaga, of course, but there are also many other interesting articles, such as the increase in complaints about receiving orders and the invasion of the Toi. What is particularly notable about the book is that Sanesuke, as the legitimate heir to the Ononomiya family, did not pander to Michinaga, and clearly wrote about the points he should criticize. To date, no handwritten version by Sanesuke has been discovered, but there are old copies from the Heian and Kamakura periods such as the Fushiminomiya version, the Maeda version, and the Kujo version, as well as newer copies from the Edo period such as the Higashiyama Gobunko version and the Cabinet Bunko version, and published versions are included in "Shiryo Taisei" (3 volumes) and "Dai Nippon Koroku" (11 volumes). The Shoki Mokuroku, another important historical document along with the Honki, is a catalog of the articles from the diary's beginning in 978 to 1032, categorized by content into 20 volumes, of which 18 volumes remain. It is thought to have been created early after 1033 for the convenience of searching the Honki, and can fill in the gaps in the Honki. It is included in the Shiryo Taisei and Dai Nihon Kokiroku.
