Polyvinylidene chloride. A thermoplastic resin made by polymerizing vinylidene chloride monomer or copolymerizing it with vinyl chloride. It has excellent flame retardancy, chemical resistance, and weather resistance, and is used in fibers (saran) for insect screens, tents, and car seats. It is also a polymer with the highest gas barrier properties, so it is widely used in food packaging films and household wrap films. However, like polyvinyl chloride, it is known to react with organic matter during garbage incineration to produce dioxins, and there is a movement to convert it to polyethylene.

ポリ塩化ビニリデン。熱可塑性樹脂で，塩化ビニリデン単量体を重合または塩化ビニルなどと共重合させて作られる。難燃性，耐薬品性，耐候性にすぐれ，繊維（サラン）として防虫網，テント，自動車用シートに，またガスバリヤー性が最も高い高分子なので，食品包装用フィルムや家庭用ラップフィルムに広く用いられる。なお塩化ビニルと同様に，ゴミ焼却の際有機物と反応してダイオキシンを発生させることが知られて，ポリエチレンへ転換する動きも出てきている。
