A theological tradition that developed in the Syrian city of Antioch from the late 3rd century to the early 5th century, which held a Christology that opposed the Logos Christology of the Alexandrian school. It began with Paul of Samosata, and was followed by Lucian and his disciples Arius, Theodore, Chrysostom, Apollinarius, and finally Nestorius. Influenced by Aristotle, this school placed great importance on grammatical and historical study of the Bible, and was notable for demonstrating the unity of the Bible in terms of salvation history through a typological interpretation rather than a figurative one.
