Castle guard - Joban
During the Edo period, one of the samurai occupations. Also called the Banteshu or Zaibanshu, they served under the castle lord and guarded the castle's gates and turrets from the Sengoku period onwards. There were regular officers who served for a set period of time and additional officers who filled in when there were shortages of personnel.
