Queen of Spain, Ferdinand VII. Daughter of Francesco I of the Two Sicilies. After the king's death in 1833, she placed her three-year-old daughter, Isabella, on the throne (Isabel II) and became regent. When the king's brother, Carlos, claimed the throne and the First Carlist War broke out, she fought back with the support of the liberal forces. To that end, she implemented radical reforms such as land reform by the liberal progressive faction, and enacted the progressive Constitution of 1837. In 1839, the popularity of the progressive general Espartero, who ended the war, rose, and her own scandal of a secret marriage to a Royal Guard soldier brought her unpopularity, so she abandoned her regency and went into exile in France during the Espartero uprising in 1840.

スペイン王フェルナンド7世の王妃。両シチリア王フランチェスコ1世の娘。1833年王の死後，3歳の娘イサベルを王位に就け(イサベル2世)，摂政に就任。その際，王弟カルロスが王位継承を要求し，第1次カルリスタ戦争が勃発すると，自由主義勢力の支援を受け対抗した。そのために自由主義進歩派による農地改革など急進的な改革を実施，進歩的な37年憲法を制定した。39年，戦争を終結させた進歩派将軍エスパルテロの人気が高揚し，また彼女自身の近衛兵との秘密結婚の醜聞が不評を買い，40年エスパルテロの蜂起で摂政を放棄し，フランスへ亡命した。
