Joneiden

Japanese:
Joneiden

The name of a palace in the Heian Palace. It is located south of the Joganden Hall in the center of the palace. It was the residence of the Empress and Nyogo. It is also called Kisakimachi or Kisaimachi. The main building is 7 bays east to west and 2 bays north to south, and has eaves on all four sides and a grand eaves on the west, facing south. It is divided into east and west by the Medou (horse path) that runs through the center. On the east side of the earthen-floored Medou corridor that leads from the Medou to Shokyoden is the Medou well. During the Gosechi event held in mid-November, which focuses on dancers performing dance music, the dancers practice their dance on a stage set up in the Joneiden Hall, and the Medou dance is watched by the Emperor, and this is why it was also called Gosetsuden.
