Cultivating crops on the same land more than twice a year. By using the land repeatedly and expanding the total cultivated area, higher productivity can be achieved with limited farmland. Cultivating crops twice a year is called double cropping, three times a year is called triple cropping, and four or more times a year is often called multiple cropping. Typical examples include growing wheat and rapeseed as a secondary crop to rice, as well as growing vegetables in the suburbs and short-term vegetables, and five-cropping and six-cropping are examples of this.
