Delorme (English spelling) Philibert Delorme (de l'Orme)

Japanese: ドロルム - どろるむ(英語表記)Philibert Delorme (de l'Orme)
Delorme (English spelling) Philibert Delorme (de l'Orme)

French Renaissance architect. Born into a family of builders in Lyon. He spent 1533-36 in Rome, where he studied ancient architecture and Italian Renaissance architecture. After returning to France, he was recognized by King Henry II and became the Chief Architect of the Royal Court, designing the Mausoleum of Francis I at the Basilica of Saint-Denis (1547) and the Château de Anet (1552-59), among others. After the death of the king, he fell out of favor for a time, and wrote two books, "New Practical Constructions of Houses" (1561) and "General Architecture" (1567, only the first volume). These were the first architectural theoretical books in France, and had a great influence on the French architectural world of his time and in later generations. In his later years, he designed the Tuileries Palace for Catherine de Medici (completed posthumously, but now destroyed). He died in Paris.
