[Born] February 11, 1864. [Died] April 11, 1927. Changsha, Hunan. A Chinese scholar from the late Qing to the Republic of China. His pen name was Jieyuan. He was a Jinshi in the 18th year of the Guangxu era (1892). He became a clerk in the Ministry of Personnel, but retired early from his post to devote himself to writing in his hometown. His studies ranged from classics and literature to astrology and bibliography, but he was killed by the Communist army for opposing the innovative ideas of the time.
