Originally it meant an abandoned campsite, but later came to mean a place to live, land, or a felt tent. Yurt is closer to the original pronunciation. Among the Turkish nomads, the words Oei and Uy are often used to refer to felt tents. Structurally, it is no different from a Mongolian ger, with a circular plan, a canopy supported by accordion-style willow side walls, and a felt fabric bound with braided cord made of wool or other materials. The distinctive feature of a yurt compared to a ger is that the canopy is slightly rounded. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
