Anga (religion) - Anga

According to the legend of the White Robe Sect, the first canonical council held in Pataliputra in the 3rd century BCE collected the memories of the ancient scriptures (14 Puvva; hereafter, the names of the scriptures will be written in their vernacular form) and compiled the 12 Aṅgas, but the final compilation of the Aṅgas in their present form was held in Ballabi in western India in the 5th century CE. The organization consisted of 11 Angas (the 12th Anga is lost), 12 Uvangas, 10 Paiṇṇa, 6 Cheya-suttas, an independent Nandi and Anuogaddhāra, and 4 Mūla-suttas, totaling 45 scriptures in 7 parts.
