Kimyochourai - A tribute to the deceased

To take refuge in a Buddha or Bodhisattva. Taking refuge means taking refuge in a Buddha or Bodhisattva with one's life or one's command. Prostration means placing the feet of a Buddha or Bodhisattva on one's head and worshiping or taking refuge. For this reason, taking refuge in a Buddha or Bodhisattva means a particularly deep worship and refuge towards a Buddha or Bodhisattva. It is also said that taking refuge is a worship from the heart to a Buddha or Bodhisattva, and prostration is a worship from the body.

仏・菩薩(ぼさつ)に帰依(きえ)すること。帰命とは仏・菩薩に自らの身命をもって帰依するとか、仏・菩薩の命令に従うことなどを意味している。頂礼とは仏・菩薩の足を自らの頂上に頂き、礼拝(らいはい)、帰依するという意味である。このため、帰命頂礼とは仏・菩薩に対する特別に深い礼拝、帰依ということを意味している。また、帰命とは仏・菩薩に対する心の方面からの礼拝であり、頂礼とは身の方面からの礼拝であるともいわれている。
