The Story of the Jokyu Army

Japanese: 承久軍物語 - じょうきゅういくさものがたり

A military chronicle of the Jōkyū War. Six volumes, author unknown. One of the variants of the Jōkyūki, the structure is quite different. It is presumed to have been written after the Kan'ei era (1624-44) by adding an article from the Azuma Kagami to the old Keichō-era Jōkyūki printed in movable type. It appears that this work was originally intended to be made into a picture scroll, and the copy held by the Cabinet Library, which appears to be a rough draft, lists the designation of the art studio and orders for the pictures. 承久の乱を記した軍記。6巻，作者未詳。《承久記》の異本の一つだが，構成は相当に異なる。慶長古活字本《承久記》に《吾妻鏡》の記事を加え，寛永年間(1624‐44)以降に成ったと推定される。本書は，元来絵巻仕立てにするつもりだったらしく，草稿本と思われる内閣文庫蔵本には絵所の指定や絵の注文が記されている。《群書類従》《国史叢書》所収。【杉橋隆夫】
