Araki Ship

Japanese: 荒木船 - あらきぶね

〘Noun〙 Foreign trade ship of Nagasaki red seal ship merchant Araki Sotaro. It was issued a red seal letter for passage to Annam in 1619 ( 5th year of the Genna era ). According to a drawing made in 1619, the ship's structure and outfitting were a combination of a Chinese-style junk and a Western-style sailing ship, galeuta, and it was more Westernized than the similar Siamese ship. At the time, this type of ship was called Mistwis-built or Japanese-style. It is estimated to be around 500 tons. * Nagasaki Engi Abbreviation (1712) "The term hosho-sen is (abbreviated) In Nagasaki, there are two Suetsugu Heizo ships, Funamoto Yashiro's ship, Araki's ship, and Itoya Zuiemon's ship."

〘名〙長崎の朱印船貿易商荒木宗太郎の外国貿易船。元和五年（一六一九）安南渡海の朱印状を下付された。同八年に描かれた図によれば、中国型ジャンクと西洋型帆船ガレウタとを折衷した構造と艤装の船で、同系統のシャム船よりも洋式化が強い。当時この種の船をミスツイス造りとか日本前と称した。五〇〇トン前後と推定される。※長崎縁起略記（1712）「奉書船といふは〈略〉長崎には末次平蔵船二艘、船本彌七郎、荒木船、糸屋随右衛門船なり」
