Coastal zone (lakes and marshes)

Coastal zone (lakes and marshes)

[Lake creatures]
Because lakes and ponds are semi-closed bodies of water, there is a very close interaction between the various organisms living there and the environment, with each lake forming an independent ecosystem as a whole. Lake ecosystems are divided into three ecological zones based on the characteristics of the habitats of the organisms in the lake and their biotic composition: the littoral zone, the offshore zone, and the bathyal zone. The littoral zone is a shallow area where large plants grow along the lake shore, and from the water's edge to the center of the lake, emergent plants, floating-leaved plants (aquatic plants with leaves that float on the water surface, such as water lilies and water chestnuts), and submerged plants are distributed in successive bands.
