La Voce (English spelling)

La Voce (English spelling)
Italian cultural magazine. Meaning "voice". Founded in Florence in 1908 by Prezzolini. Following in the footsteps of Leonardo magazine, major intellectuals of the time, such as Salvemini, Serra, Croce, Boine, Soffici, and Cecchi, contributed to the magazine. In the early days, under the influence of Croce, the magazine criticized the system and discussed issues such as the Southern Problem, universal suffrage, and the invasion of Libya. However, after Papini became editor-in-chief in 1913, it leaned toward nationalism under the influence of Gentile, and came to link social change with war. At the end of the same year, Papini left the magazine to found La Cerva and join the Futurist movement, after which its glorification of war intensified, which played a part in the formation of fascism in later years. De Robertis served as editor-in-chief from 1914 until the magazine's closure in 1916, and during this period the magazine focused primarily on literature, producing new poets such as Ungaretti, Caldarelli, and Campana, and introducing many European avant-garde poets, including Mallarmé, Rimbaud, and Apollinaire.
