...The apartments of Louis XV at the Palace of Versailles were also equipped with gorgeous damask blinds. The so-called Venetian blind was invented in France at the end of the 16th century as a simple structure and was called a jalousie (ventilation grille). In the mid-18th century, it was gradually improved, and in America it was named Venetian blinds, and it spread throughout Western Europe. Following this process, the style of curtains and blinds was largely established in Western Europe by the late 18th century.
