Calvin's catechism. When he returned to Geneva from Strasbourg in 1541 to continue the Reformation, he rewrote the catechism along with the church rules. A French version was published in 1542, and a Latin version in 1545. The previous 1537 catechism (not in question-and-answer format) was a summary of the first edition of Institutes of the Christian Religion, but it was revised into four parts with 373 questions. Children were taught this from the age of 12 onwards, and when they professed their faith, they were recognized as members of the church.
