Located on the border between Hiroshima and Shimane prefectures, it is made up of the Chugoku Sekiryo Mountains, including Mt. Eboshi (1,225m), Mt. Azuma (1,239m), Mt. Tateeboshi (1,299m), and Mt. Ryuo (1,255m). The summits of all of the mountains are high and flat, with gentle slopes. The Kojiki records that Izanami-no-Mikoto was buried on Mt. Hiba, and Mt. Hiba is an object of worship, with many huge rocks in the surrounding area believed to be the remains of distant pilgrimage sites. The pure beech forest is also a nationally designated natural monument. It is part of the Hiba-Dogo-Taishaku Quasi-National Park.
