…When the female reaches maturity, she lays eggs in a large brood chamber formed by overlapping two or three pairs of thin, large ovules that develop from the base of the inner thoracic legs. This is why the English name opossum is used. The fertilized eggs develop in this chamber, and leave the chamber with all the thoracic legs like the adult, so they do not have a special larval stage like shrimp or krill.
