Passion - Junan (English spelling)

Passion - Junan (English spelling)

The suffering and atoning death of Christ were the central themes of prophecy in the Old Testament (compare Isaiah 50:6 and 53:5 with Luke 24:25-27, Acts 3:18 and 8:32-35). Therefore, the New Testament, which records the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy, contains a detailed account of Christ's suffering leading up to his death (Matthew 26-27, Mark 14-15, Luke 22-23). Although it is only a two-day event, it is described in great detail because it contains the most important central event for Christian faith. It begins two days before Passover and continues with Judas' betrayal, the Last Supper with the disciples, the prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane, the arrest, the trial before the Sanhedrin, Peter's denial, Pilate's trial, the flogging, the crowning of thorns, the carrying of the cross, the execution, death, and burial.
