An old town in Ishikawa County, southern Ishikawa Prefecture. The city center is at the mouth of the Tedori River where it flows from the Kaga Mountains into the Kanazawa Plain. It has long developed as a market town and a town in front of the shrine gate of Shirayamahime Shrine, the Ichinomiya of Kaga. It is served by the Hokuriku Railway. It produces timber, sake, and forged cutlery. In February 2005, it merged with Matto City, Ishikawa County's Mikawa Town, Kawachi Village, Yoshinotani Village, Torigoe Village, Oguchi Village, and Shiramine Village to become Hakusan City. 35.64 km2 . 石川県南部,石川郡の旧町。中心市街は手取(てどり)川が加賀山地から金沢平野に出る谷口にあり,古くから市場町,加賀一宮白山比【め】(しらやまひめ)神社の鳥居前町として発達。北陸鉄道が通じる。木材,清酒,打刃物を産する。2005年2月松任市,石川郡美川町,河内村,吉野谷村,鳥越村,尾口村,白峰村と合併し市制,白山市となる。35.64km2。2万2502人(2003)。
