ANZUS Treaty

Japanese: ANZUS条約 - アンザスじょうやく

Also known as the Pacific Security Treaty. The Pacific Security Treaty was signed in 1951 between Australia (A), New Zealand (NZ), and the United States (US), and ANZUS is derived from the initials of the three countries. The organization based on this treaty is also called the Pacific Council. Although it was originally intended as a defense against Japan, it is also closely related to the US-Philippines Mutual Defense Treaty and the Japan-US Security Treaty, both of which were signed in the same year.

太平洋安全保障条約とも。1951年オーストラリア（A），ニュージーランド（NZ），米国（US）３国間に調印された太平洋安全保障条約のことで，ANZUSは３国の頭文字に由来する。この条約に基づく組織は太平洋理事会とも呼ばれる。当初は対日防衛という意味が濃かったが，同年に調印された米・フィリピン相互防衛条約，日米安全保障条約とも深い関連をもつ。
