A type of propeller in which the blades rotate around a vertical axis. There are several types, but the most well-known is the Voith-Schneider propeller, named after its inventor. In this type, the blades are attached vertically to a rotating disk attached to the bottom of the ship, and a link mechanism as shown in the figure changes the angle of attack of the blades during one rotation, generating thrust in one direction. By moving the center point P of the link, thrust in any direction can be obtained, eliminating the need for a rudder and making the ship extremely maneuverable.
