Poet. Born in Nara City. Graduated from Sakai Middle School. Later, he followed his father to Dalian in Manchuria (northeastern China). Although he had the misfortune of having to amputate his right leg due to illness, he started writing poetry and founded the magazine "A" (November 1924) with Kitagawa Fuyuhiko and Takiguchi Takeshi. He also participated in "Poetry and Poetic Theory" and became one of the leading promoters of modernist poetry in the Showa era. His first collection of poems, "Gunkan Mari" (1929), was followed by "Saseru Toreadoroshi" (1949), and he published six other books of poems. His famous work "Spring" (Spring), written during the early short poem movement, is a beautiful piece that beautifully captures the leisurely season of "spring" in a wide space with just one line: "A single tefu tefu crossed the Tartary Straits."
