Born: 1447/1448. Nuremberg
Died in 1533. German sculptor from Nuremberg. A representative sculptor of the late Gothic style, and the greatest wood sculptor of his time. He lived in Krakow, Poland from 1477 to 1496, and produced works such as the Great Altar of St. Mary's Cathedral (1477-89) and the Tomb of Casimir IV (1492). He returned to Nuremberg in 1496, and produced works such as the Annunciation (1517-18) for St. Lorenz Cathedral. His works are characterized by their gorgeous form, precise detail, and dramatic inner expression.

ドイツの彫刻家。後期ゴシック様式の代表的な彫刻家で，当時最高の木彫家。 1477～96年ポーランドのクラクフに滞在，聖マリア聖堂の大祭壇 (1477～89) ，『カシミール4世の墓碑』 (92) などを制作。 96年ニュルンベルクに帰り，聖ロレンツ聖堂の『聖告』 (1517～18) などを制作した。華麗な形式，精緻な細部表現，劇的な内面表現が特徴。
