Japanese: 分野調整法 - ぶんやちょうせいほう

The official name of this law is "Law on Adjustment of Business Activities of Large Enterprises to Ensure Opportunities for Business Activities of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises," and its purpose is "to appropriately secure business opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises by adjusting the business activities of large enterprises that may have a negative impact on the stability of management of small and medium-sized enterprises when they start or expand their businesses." It was promulgated in 1977. The adjustment of business fields between small and medium-sized enterprises and large enterprises has been a frequent topic of discussion in the Diet since World War II, but with the slowdown in economic growth that followed the oil crisis in 1973, there were a series of cases in which large enterprises tried to enter the tofu, cleaning, cardboard, and other industries, and the momentum for legislation for adjustment suddenly increased.

正式には，〈中小企業の事業活動の機会の確保のための大企業者の事業活動の調整に関する法律〉といい，〈中小企業者の経営の安定に悪影響を及ぼすおそれのある大企業者の事業の開始又は拡大に関し，その事業活動を調整することにより中小企業の事業活動の機会を適正に確保する〉ことを目的とする。1977年公布。中小企業と大手企業との事業分野の調整については，第2次大戦後しばしば国会の論議の的となってきた経緯があるが，1973年の石油危機を境とする経済成長の鈍化のもとで，大手企業が豆腐業界やクリーニング業界，段ボール業界などに進出しようとする事例が相次いだので，にわかに調整のための立法化への気運が盛り上がった。
