Mount Komaki

Japanese:
Mount Komaki
<br /> The remains of a castle in Horiuchi, Komaki City, Aichi Prefecture. Located in the west of Komaki City, just west of the city center, this isolated peak is about 600m east to west and 400m north to south, with an altitude of 85.9m. Its beautiful appearance rising from the Nobi Plain has made it a symbol of Komaki City. In 1563 (Eiroku 6), Oda Nobunaga built Komakiyama Castle as a base for his conquest of Mino. Later, Tokugawa Ieyasu set up camp here during the Battle of Komaki and Nagakute, and throughout the Edo period, the castle was heavily protected by the Owari Tokugawa family as a place associated with Ieyasu. Even today, earthworks, dry moats, and well remains remain in various places in the mountains, and investigations of the remains of the castle and restoration work are underway. It was designated a national historic site in 1927 (Showa 2), and most of it is owned by Komaki City, with the area around Hachiman Shrine in the south being a shrine site. When Nobunaga built the castle on Komakiyama, it is said that there was a riding ground on the southern side of the mountain, which is now called "Sakura no Baba." The foot of the mountain on the eastern side has been developed as a historic park and is used as a place of relaxation for the citizens. Take the Meitetsu bus from Komaki Station on the Meitetsu Komaki Line to "Komaki City Hall" and walk for about 10 minutes.
