Yu Hao (English spelling)

Chinese architect of the early Northern Song dynasty. Also written as Yu Hao, Yu Hao, Yu Hao, or Yu Hao. A native of eastern Zhejiang, he served as the capital master carpenter of Hangzhou. He oversaw the design of the Kaibao Temple Pagoda in Kaifeng, and construction began in 981 (the 6th year of the Taiping Xingguo period), which took eight years to complete in 989 (the 2nd year of the Duangong period). The eleven-storey octagonal wooden pagoda was designed by calculating the dimensions from a model made in advance, and was designed to be tilted to accommodate the local northwesterly winds. His work, Bokei (The Classic of Wood), was a handbook for carpenters of the time and is thought to have influenced the later Yingzao Fa Shi (The Formula for Building Construction), but it has already been lost and only fragments remain.

中国，北宋初期の建築家。喩浩，預浩，預皓，喩晧とも書く。浙東の人で，杭州の都料匠をつとめた。開封の開宝寺塔の設計を主宰し，981年(太平興国6)起工，8年間を要して989年(端拱2)に竣工した。八角十一重の木塔で，あらかじめ模型を製作して寸法を算定し，当地の北西風に対処するべく傾斜をあたえるくふうを施した。著作の《木経（ぼくけい）》は，当時の工匠の便覧で，のちの《営造法式》にも影響をあたえたとみられるが，すでに散逸し，逸文のみが伝わる。
