An Islamic scholar from the early Qing Dynasty in China, circa 1660-1730. His courtesy name was Jie Lian and his pen name was Yi Sai. He was from Shangyuan County, Jiangsu Province (now Nanjing), and was of Hui ethnicity. From an early age, he studied Arabic and Persian under his father, Liu Hanying, a famous Islamic scholar, and was also well-versed in Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism. He traveled around the country collecting Islamic classics, but in his later years he returned to Jinling (Nanjing) and devoted himself to writing. His representative works include the 5-volume ``Tianfang Seiri'' (The Principles of Heavenly Path) (1704), which interprets the Islamic worldview from the perspective of Neo-Confucianism, and other works that have been passed down to the present day, such as ``Tianfang Zhishen Jilu'' and ``Tianfang Tenrei Sekkei'' (The Illustrated Explanation of Heavenly Paths).
