Lake Vermont is located in the northeastern United States, and is the border between the states of Vermont and New York. It stretches 200 km from north to south, and its northern end is in the Canadian province of Quebec. It is a long, narrow lake, measuring 23 km from east to west. Its area is 1,269 km2. It is located in a wide river valley between the Green Mountains to the east and the Adirondack Mountains to the west. The lake flows north along the Richelieu River and empties into the St. Lawrence River. It is connected to the Hudson River in the south by the Champlain Canal, and serves as a link between the Hudson River and the St. Lawrence Seaway.
