Kaya-ji

...An ancient noble family whose main residence was in Kaya County, Bitchu Province (present-day eastern Soja City, Okayama Prefecture, western Okayama City, Kaya Town, and Arikan Town, Kamiboso County). In January of 765 (Tenpyo Jingo 1), Kaya no Omi Kodama no Me was promoted to Junior Fifth Rank and awarded the Order of the Sixth Class, and in June of the same year, she and 12 other family members were given the surname Kabane (Ason) (Shoku Nihongi). In November of 859 (Jogan 1), the name of Kaya no Ason Ushio, who was promoted to Junior Fifth Rank, appears (Nihon Sandai Jitsuroku), suggesting that women from the Kaya kuni no miyatsuko family had served as court ladies or court ladies from an early age.

…備中国賀夜（かや）郡(現在の岡山県総社市東部，岡山市西部，上房郡賀陽町，有漢町)を本貫地とする古代よりの名族。765年(天平神護1)正月，賀陽臣小玉女が外従五位下に叙して勲六等を授けられ，同年6月に一族12人とともに朝臣の姓（かばね）を賜った(《続日本紀》)。859年(貞観1)11月には従五位下に叙せられた賀陽朝臣姑子の名がみえ(《日本三代実録》)，加夜国造家の女が早くから采女（うねめ）または女官として出仕したことをしのばせる。…
