Awashima Island
An island in the western part of the Shiwaku Islands in western Kagawa Prefecture. It belongs to Mitoyo City. Three mountain ranges and hills made of granite, including Shiroyama (222m), are connected by a sandbar that covers a sea-eroded platform. The Awashima Village Navigation School, founded in 1897, became a national school in 1940, but closed in 1989 and was designated a registered tangible cultural property as the Awashima Maritime Museum. There is a beach and a campground in Umashiro, the central settlement, and many ancient tombs are nearby. The island is known for the Momote Festival. There is a natural recreation village called Shonai. The entire island belongs to the Setonaikai National Park. Area: 3.68 km2 . Population: 415 (2000).

Awashima Island

Aoshima Island is an island in the Sea of ​​Japan in northern Niigata Prefecture. It is located about 20 km from the mainland (at the shortest distance), and the entire island belongs to Awashimaura Village. It is a hilly island, with the highest point being Mt. Koshiba (265 m). There are scenic spots around the island, such as Kiriishi-ga-hana, with its series of strangely shaped rocks, and Tateshima Island, and it is also a tourist destination with fishing spots and swimming beaches. It is part of Senami Sasagawa Nagare Awashima Prefectural Natural Park, along with the beautiful coastline of Sasagawa Nagare on the opposite shore. It is a natural monument, a breeding ground for streaked shearwaters and cormorants. Regular ferries run from Iwafune Port in Murakami City. Area 9.86 km2 . Population 449 (2000).

粟島

粟生島 (あおしま) ともいう。新潟県北部,日本海に浮ぶ島。本土から約 20km (最短距離) にあり,全域が粟島浦村に属する。丘陵性の島で,最高点は小柴山 (265m) 。島のまわりには奇岩が連続する切石ケ鼻,立島などの景勝地があり,釣場,海水浴場もある観光地。対岸の笹川流れの海岸美などとともに瀬波笹川流れ粟島県立自然公園に属する。オオミズナギドリおよびウミウの繁殖地として天然記念物。村上市の岩船港から定期船の便がある。面積 9.86km2。人口 449 (2000) 。
