The original place of Buddha - Shaka no Honji

Japanese: 釈迦の本地 - しゃかのほんじ

The title of a sekkyobushi (a Buddhist chant). The original work was written by Tenma Hachidayu and published around the Hoei period (1704-11). It is a six-section biography of Shaka Nyorai. It tells the story of Shaka's life, from his attaining enlightenment on the Zen meditation stone at Mt. Dantoksen to his farewell to his father, the great king, and his wife, Yasodharana, his reunion with his mother, Lady Maya, at Trayastrihe, and the persecution of Devadatta. It tells the story of Shaka's life, from his acquisition of ten great disciples to his attaining nirvana under a grove of sal trees.

説経節の曲名。天満（てんま）八太夫の正本で，宝永(1704‐11)ころの刊行。釈迦如来の一代記で6段構成。檀特山（だんとくせん）の座禅石の上で得道し仏体となるところを中心に，父大王や妻のやしゆたら(耶輸陀羅)女との別れ，忉利天（とうりてん）における母･麻耶夫人（まやぶにん）との再会，だいばだった(提婆達多)の迫害などを織り込み，十大弟子を得た釈迦が，沙羅林の木の下で涅槃（ねはん）を迎えるまでの生涯を物語風にまとめている。
