Japanese: 安来[市] - やすぎ

A city in eastern Shimane Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1954. The central town, facing Lake Nakaumi, developed as a post town on the San'in Road and as an outer port for the Matsue Domain, and is served by the San'in Main Line. Since the Tenbun era, it has been known for producing Izumo steel, made from iron sand produced in the Chugoku Mountains. Special steel is still manufactured there today, and the city ranks among the top in the prefecture for industrial shipments. Nijisseiki pears and bamboo shoots are also produced in abundance. In 2005, Lake Nakaumi was registered as a Ramsar wetland. In October 2004, it merged with Hirose Town and Hakuta Town in Nogi County. 420.93 ^km2 . Population: 41,836 (2010).

島根県東部の市。1954年市制。中海に面する中心市街は山陰道の宿場町，松江藩の外港として発達，山陰本線が通じる。天文年間以来，中国山地に産する砂鉄を原料とする出雲鋼(はがね)の産で知られた。現在も特殊鋼製造が行われ，工業出荷額は県上位。二十世紀ナシ，タケノコも多産。2005年に中海がラムサール条約登録湿地となる。2004年10月能義郡広瀬町，伯太町と合併。420.93km²。４万1836人（2010）。
