Wyoming is the capital and largest city in the state of Wyoming, USA. It is located in the southeastern corner of the state, on the eastern side of the Laramie Mountains, the easternmost part of the Rocky Mountains. It was the construction base of the transcontinental Union Pacific Railroad and is the oldest city in the state. It has been the state capital since 1890, and is not only a key location for railroads and air routes, but also an industrial center for oil refining, livestock farming (sheep is currently the most common), and dryland agriculture. Chemical and plastic plants are also located here. It was also an old military base, and is now a missile base. It is blessed with beautiful scenery and a thriving tourist industry. A six-day festival is held every July to recall the pioneer era, and is famous for its rodeo and parade in pioneer costumes. Population: 58,000 (1990).
