A city in the west of Aichi Prefecture, between Nagoya and Seto. In 1970, Asahi-cho, Higashi-Kasugai-gun, was renamed and incorporated as a city. It belongs to the Seto ceramics region, and is a prolific producer of Western-style tableware and ceramics for electrical use. In recent years, the electrical equipment industry has developed in the area.
