Coach of the Japan Women's Volleyball Team. Born in Kagawa Prefecture. As a member of the volleyball team at Kwansei Gakuin Commercial High School (now Kwansei Gakuin University), he won the All Japan Championships twice. After graduating, he joined Dai Nippon Spinning (now Unitika), and after serving in the military, he became coach of the Nitto Kaizuka women's volleyball team in 1953, where he recorded 175 consecutive wins until he resigned in 1964. He invented the spinning receive and other moves to train the defense, and was nicknamed "Demon Omatsu" for his rigorous training. During this time, the Japan team, which was mainly made up of Nitto Kaizuka, was the runner-up in the 3rd World Championships in 1960 (Brazil), and the Japan team won all 24 games in their European tour the following year, and won the 4th World Championships in 1962 (Moscow), beating the Soviet Union. The players were reported as the Oriental Witches. They won the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, sparking a volleyball boom.
