? -1600 (Keicho 5) A military commander during the Azuchi-Toyotomi government. His name was Kiyooki. Some books say he was Katsutake or Tomoyuki. He belonged to the Tsutsui clan, but later became a trusted vassal of Ishida Mitsunari. He is famous for his poem "There are two things that are more than a Jibusho, Shima no Sakon and Sawayama Castle." In 1592 (Bunroku 1), he dispatched forces to Korea. In the Battle of Sekigahara in September 1600, he thoroughly defeated the troops of the vanguard Nakamura Kazuhide and Arima Toyouji in order to encourage the Western Army, which was shaken by the arrival of Tokugawa Ieyasu on the 14th. In the decisive battle on the 15th, he commanded Mitsunari's vanguard and was killed in battle fighting bravely. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
